- Which modems allow setting ring spacing for auto answer? What I mean is, I
- want to be able to set an S register or whatever that controls how many
- seconds apart two rings can be for them to count in the number of rings set
- in S0 before the modem auto answers. The USR Courier does not allow you to
- set this, at least it wasn't listed in the manual. The only other modem
- manual I could check for was a 14.4K Practical Peripherals (but I'm only
- interested in 28.8K modems, of course) that I looked at for comparison, it
- also did not provide this capability but did document that the S0 register
- counted rings up to 8 seconds apart. For my purposes I'll need to handle
- maybe 10-15 seconds apart.
-
- The reason I'm doing this, in case people are curious, is that my office
- phone has voicemail; I'd like to set up a modem on it I can call from home,
- but not have to disable my voice mail when I go home and reenable it when
- I return in the morning. I have set it up so that dialing 0 when I get into
- my voicemail forwards back to my phone and rings it again. So I get 4 rings,
- then get into voicemail and hit 0, then get 4 more rings. This way I can
- dial my work phone, but leave my voicemail accessible at all times, and never
- have to remember to do anything when I leave at night or return in the
- morning. Problem is, there is probably a 10-15 second gap between the first
- four rings and the next four. If I can find some modems that will allow me
- to set this, I could program my modem at home to dial, wait enough time to
- be sure I'm in voicemail, hit 0, then wait for a connect, and the modem at
- work could have S0 set to 6 to pick up after the 2nd ring after the 0 does
- the forwarding back to my phone line. I just need a modem at work that can
- work with this setup.

- Thanks for any info or ideas!
